Dyslexia awareness report Print

This study, conducted within the framework of the ‘Embedding Dyslexia-Responsive Practices in Lifelong Learning’ project, summarizes 2 years of activities in the field of supporting dyslexia provision for children in the 6 EMBED partner countries, namely Bulgaria, Hungary, Italy, Poland, Spain and the UK. Our aim was to explore what is available for dyslexic children and their caretakers, what the basic needs, the most stressing shortcomings and the best practices are.

These aims were achieved by the following steps:

  • analyzing what findings and resources were already available from previous EU funded projects (e.g. Include, Calldysc, Dystrain, Adystrain, E-Dysgate)
  • selecting relevant materials for dissemination, and making adaptations (language variants and updating format) wherever seemed necessary
  • carrying out an international survey on dyslexia related difficulties that would enable us to match resources to actual needs for different target groups in different countries summarizing findings and making recommendations in this report

While the recommendations and main findings of this study are aimed primarily at educational policy makers and advocacy NGOs, they were and will be disseminated to other relevant stakeholders and to the wider public in publications and lectures.

We hope that this study with its recommendations will add to the first steps already taken towards building a more supportive education and training system for dyslexic children across Europe.
